Sister Dorothy Bucko, 80
School Sisters of St. Francis

School Sister of St. Francis Dorothy Bucko was attracted to her religious community as a teenager. "Attending one of their retreats was my first experience with Franciscan hospitality," explains Sister Dorothy. "I was drawn in by their kindness. "Today, after spending numerous years as a Catholic school teacher and principal, not to mention serving in music and pastoral ministry, Sister Dorothy continues to spread Franciscan warmth and welcome. At 80, she still plays the organ, and she serves as a eucharistic minister for residents of a senior living center sponsored by her religious community. Support from the Retirement Fund for Religious is helping her congregation determine how best to use their resources to support well elders, like Sister Dorothy, as well as members who need greater care.
