The National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO) maintains a network of consultants to assist religious communities in planning for retirement. Individuals trained especially in financial planning, eldercare, and communications with membership about retirement volunteer their services and also make recommendations for grant awards.
Shown here on a 2001 visit, Sister Janice Bader, CPPS, NRRO project director of retirement services assists (from left) Sisters Maria Flora Ramirez, Teresa Rojar, and Maria Guadalupe Villaseuor to complete an application for a Basic Grant. The sisters low fixed income was inadequate for needed renovations or retirement planning.
NRRO generates a Retirement Needs Analysis that calculates the retirement need based on a religious community's demographics, current cost of care, and assets available for retirement. A 12-Year Cash Flow Program projects the financial position of a religious community based on current income, expenses, and trends. The Census Projection uses current statistics to project census for 12 years based on the William M. Mercer Mortality Tables for members of religious communities.
NRRO sponsors and co-sponsors workshops on emerging trends in elder care; government programs, resources for retirement planning, and building or renovating for retirement care, among others.
Since 1988, NRRO has become a significant source of data about the status of religious life in the United States.
