The 2008 collection enabled the National Religious Retirement Office to distribute over $23 million in Direct Care Assistance (formerly Basic Grants) to 483 religious institutes. An average of $653 was awarded for every sister, brother, and religious order priest past age 70.
Another $177,600 was awarded in Special Assistance Grants to 10 religious communities.
Supplemental Grants, ranging in size from $14,200 to $250,000 and totaling $2,308,544, were distributed to 15 communities. These funds helped communities in immediate need of assistance to implement a retirement strategy. Trained volunteers conducted site visits, assisted with financial planning, and submitted recommendations for the distribution of Supplemental Grants.
Supplemental Identified Need Grants (SING) helped support financial forecasting, strategic planning, workshop participation, and continuing education related to financial management, development, and elder care. NRRO distributed $88,026 in SINGs during 2008.
