How Donations are Distributed

In 2006, the National Religious Retirement Office distributed $23 million in Basic Grants to 515 religious communities. An average of $607 was awarded for every sister, brother, and order priest past age 70.

Another $229,995 was awarded in Special Assistance Grants to 15 religious communities.

A total of $3,776,000 in Supplemental Grants ranging in size from $1,000 to $300,000 was distributed to 26 religious communities in need of help implementing a retirement strategy. Recommendations for these grants are made by volunteers trained in financial planning and elder care issues who make site visits and submit assessments to NRRO.

Supplemental Identified Need Grants (SING) help finance financial forecasting and strategic planning, workshop participation and continuing education related to elder care. SINGs can be used to buy computer software, hardware, and training and are awarded in amounts of $5,000 or less. NRRO distributed $75,733.47 in SINGs last year.
